2020.08.21 06:39 dopeness_59 Breakdown

Quoted from “TrekkinDave”
The following information is based on my personal experience and knowledge of how the process works and may or may not be the way they run it this time or have run it in the past. The process varies slightly per person and is always changing, as is the work that police officers do. Please use this information as a guide only to help you understand where you are in the process and do not use it as a roadmap for where you currently are.
There are no set number of academies per year. There have been years when there weren't any and there have been years when they did two classes at the same time. I would think that the processing will start fairly early for the 105/100's because all the background work for the past list is null and void at this point. if you have a 100/105 be ready, you can get called at any time. Anyone with a 95, stay ready. There won't be any movement on the 95 lists until the lotto, and from that point forward if you are 250 or less I would expect that you will be called to start soon.
Pre Warning Be aware of what you post on this forum or the internet. Watch your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other internet posts because they can and will come back to haunt you. Do not post protected information.
1- If you took the test and got a 105 or 100. Congratulations. Be Prepared for the notification that you need to report for the orientation. More on that process down the list.
2- You took the test and got a good (95 or better score). Congratulations. While this certainly helps your odds of getting hired, it does not guarantee you a spot at the academy. I am VERY sorry to say that if you have a 90 or lower on the standard test, that you probably will not be called. There are close to 5000 people ahead of you who will need to be processed and either be eliminated or decline the job. The current ratio was approximately 1:10 were hired through the end of the process. Once the lottery is done and everyone now has a new "list number" then they have called people in for orientation sessions as needed. Usually, this has been in 200-300 person blocks of scores. Sorry to say that if you are 301 and they call 200-300, you will have to wait for the next orientation, if it ever comes. For the 2015 test, there were 6-7 classes put into the academy and they did call and process up to the 3000's mark on the 95 list. There is hope if you got a sub 3000 lotto score that you will be called eventually, but don't expect it to be in 2020. This list will be valid until 2024ish. Depending on when they give the next test and when the scores are certified and published. As soon as the next list is published, then the old list is invalid. Continue Reading below for more information on the orientation and background process.
3- Orientation- You will be given a date to show up to the academy and receive your paperwork for your background, given an overview of the application process and scheduled for a date for the physical fitness testing. I'm not your mother so I'm not going to tell you what to do, but showing up for the orientation with a fresh shave, shined shoes, a new conservative haircut, and dressed in a freshly pressed suit(females included) certainly served me well. At orientation, you will receive your scheduled date for the physical fitness testing. It is usually 2 weeks after the orientation. If you are not ready and think you will fail, take a deferral. I do not advise you take a deferral, but FAILING THE PHYSICAL FITNESS WILL ELIMINATE YOU FROM THE PROCESSING AND YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE THE NEXT TEST IN 4 YEARS TO GET HIRED. There are literally 5000 people who would kill you for the job, and deferring the physical put you at a disadvantage. You will have to wait until the next set of hiring to do it if that next set ever comes. Just stay in shape and you will be fine.
4- Physical Fitness Testing - The test will be explained to you at orientation (with a video) and is typically 2 weeks following your orientation date. At any point up until you attempt the testing you can defer the tests, this includes the very day you show up for the test. The test will consist of push-ups, situps, and a 1.5-mile run conducted to the age/gender standards listed on the civil service web site. They follow the cooper standards. In my personal experience, the tests are conducted so the sit-ups and push-ups are done first. If you don't pass one of these tests, you are dismissed and given a re-test date. At this point, you can not defer your make up testing. You either pass the re-testing or you have to wait 4 years to take the test and hopefully get a good lotto score again. Not advised.
----- Important to note: If you don't pass the physical, you will not get past this point. So I guess the pro tip is, just start working out and running now and stay in shape. -----
5 - Background paperwork- You will receive paperwork at the orientation to start your background investigation. You will be given a very specific time, date, and location as a cut off to drop off the paperwork. Someone from investigations will be present at that time, date, and location to sign off on the list at the cut-off. If your packet is late, just throw it in the trash can. It will not be accepted, you will not be given an extension, you will be disqualified and someone else who could follow directions and be there on time will get the job. Too bad, so sad. 5000 people want this job they don't need to cater to you. You had a week to get it together and drop it off. That is and was more than enough time for all the people before you to get the job done and turn it in on time.
----Important to note: Steps 6-8 will and can occur in any order as civil service controls these parts of the testing and your investigator has no input on the order, date, or any other aspect of this testing. Once you complete steps 6-8 you are then handed off to the Background Investigator (BI) and they will contact you and start your background. ------
6- Written Psych- At some point, you will be scheduled for written psychological testing. Be at the time and location they gave you and be ready. The test is computerized with specific directions given that day. Show up on time, dressed appropriately, and ready for lots of mouse clicking. There will also be a writing sample that day. Be prepared for that. Write neatly and answer the questions truthfully.
7- Oral Psych- Following your written psych, at some point, you will be scheduled for an oral psych interview with the county civil service psychologist. Remember that writing sample? Remember all those computer questions? Well I hope you were truthful, they have access to all of that and will dig into any inconsistencies in your answer among those 500 questions and you may have to explain exactly why you want to be a florist... Just like all other parts of this job, be able to articulate your actions and answers is key.
8- Medical Exam- At some point, you will be scheduled to report to the doctor and have a medical exam to include vital signs, drug testing, vision, and hearing. They will instruct you to bring some paperwork with you to the medical. Have it. Some people will have been told to bring letters from their physicians for certain things, make sure you have them. You will be given a slip to go for a blood draw. Just go and do it. They don't tell you (from what I can remember) that the blood draw should be a fasting blood draw. So don't eat from the night before when you go. Stay hydrated, because if you don't pee in the cup with the nurse watching, you have to wait... and wait... and wait... and you cant progress in the medical until you do.
------ Important Note: Once 6-8 are done, you will be handed off the Background Investigator-----
9- In-person interview- If you pass the above-listed testing, you will be assigned a background investigator. The BI will contact you and schedule you for a date to come to headquarters with specific documents and have a background interview. Some have lasted 1 hour, others have lasted 7 hours. A conservative estimate will be 4 hours start to finish. You may have to write statements about somethings in your past, get them done and turned in as soon as possible. Be prepared to talk about any and all calls to 911, traffic accidents, domestic incidents, high school suspensions, drug use, arrests, or that time you got a ticket for open beer in Patchogue. Don't assume something will disqualify you. Discuss your concerns with the BI, and don't write yourself off. The BIGGEST thing that will get you disqualified is getting caught up in a lie. Even if you explain it away and have a good reason for your lie... you lied. Police officers don't lie and your INTEGRITY IS YOUR BIGGEST ASSET. So what if you smoked pot in high school 2-3 times? Are you clean and sober now? Did you get blackout drunk on spring break but don't drink now because you learned a lesson? People drink and people make mistakes. You are human. Just done lie about anything and you should be good.
10- Polygraphy- At some point in this phase you will be scheduled for a polygraph with a police department polygraph technician. This is where the NOT LYING comes into play. They will find out. You will be eliminated. You will have wasted all your time on this and will have to wait until the next test to try again... if you get a good lotto score. Be open, be honest, and answer the questions truthfully. Just like the background investigation, plan on 4 hours. Some tests have been 1 hour, some have been 9. The polygraph tech won't let you leave until they are satisfied with their decision on if you are truthful or not. Also, they will not tell you that you passed or not. So don't ask. You should know if you were truthful or not. Know your truth. Also, be aware that the polygraph has an expiration date on it. You may be sitting around for months waiting for the polygraph to happen. They won't send you for the polygraph until they are sure an academy will happen within the expiration timeline. I don't know that timeline though.
------Important note: At this point, you are probably on a "ready to hire" list. That is the list of people who, if called tomorrow could start the academy and be hired because they have cleared all the process. During this whole time, 2 months to 2 years, stay in shape. Day 2 of the academy is a physical fitness test (the PT In test). If you fail the test you may be out of the academy. Make sure you stay in shape.
11- GETTING THE CALL- The class has been approved by the county and has been signed off. Your BI will call you personally and have you come to headquarters to sign the job acceptance letter. Typically there will be some rumors that the class is going to start and you will have some idea, but there has been as little as 2 days notice that the class was going to start. There have also been cases where people have signed for the job acceptance and then the academy was put on hold... Do not quite your job because you think you are starting the academy until you are told to. Calls have happened on a Friday with Academy Starting on a Monday... It is the best call of your life though.
---- Important note: You may be told to go to the quartermaster for uniform fittings. The big bosses have windows in their office that face the Quartermaster. Don't act like a fool. You are being watched. 1000's of eyes are on you. Every police officer you meet will be evaluating your personality and demeanor to see if you are the type of person who they want to be working with... Your reputation will start IMMEDIATELY and your name will be out there, good or bad.
12- Day 1 of the Academy - Make sure you wear a suit. Make sure you have a hair cut and a shave. Make sure you did a trial trip to the academy to know how to get there, where to park, and how to follow directions to the EXACT spot they tell you to show up at. Be prepared that there will be 100 other recruits showing up at the same time, and you will all be excited and nervous. Just do as told, when told and you will be fine. Bring what they tell you to bring, no more and no less. Don't wear your $1500 Armani suit, as pushup can and will happen and no one will give a single care about your suit.
12.1 Academy Success- Show up, Shut up, and Listen. You will be going through 6 months of the best training you can get. Every aspect of being a police officer will be covered. Law, procedures, tactics, shooting, drill and ceremonies, uniform prep, radio procedures, defensive tactics, water survival, active shooter, EMT class... you name it. You are joining one of the best police departments in the nation. Give it your all, because you will only get out of the academy what you put into it. Yes, the prior military and police service recruits may have a slight advantage, but you are training for YOU. Get what you can out of the academy to be an effective cop. No one wants you showing up on the first day of field training looking and acting like a fool.
12.2 WHAT NOT TO DO AT THE ACADEMY- Don't get a DWI, Don't Get Arrested, Don't get pulled over, and for GOD SAKES Don't get involved with police action off-duty. You are not a cop yet. Don't try to stop robbers or burglars. Don't try to break up fights. Don't try to chase the heroin addict who just broke into your car in your driveway around the block and tackle him and "arrest" him until the real police arrive and find out he didn't have any proceeds. Your job is more important. Be a good witness and call 911, better yet... you inside and study or workout. Stay out of everything so your dumb *** don't get fired before you actually get out into the street.
12.3 Field Training- Show Up, Shut Up, and LEARN! Iron your uniform, Shine your shoes and don't talk ****. You know the basics and that is it. You now need to learn how to apply it. Your FTO will teach you how to do the job the way the cops in your area do the job. Take a piece from every FTO you have and apply it to the way you want to do your job when you are done. You may be detailed out to assignments, parades, and details. You may be put on the prisoner run, you may be working at the desk. You are new, everyone had to do it and you will learn EVERY DAY until you retire. Get phone numbers from all the cops in your squad, and make phone calls if you don't know how to handle something. Don't bother the Sgt with silly questions that can be answered by other cops and your FTO's
  1. Your Career- Get involved early. Fraternal organizations, PBA meetings, and events, Political Action Events, Squad functions.. you name it. The more you get to know the people you work with the stronger the bond will become and the more fun you will have at work and out. Also, start your damn deferred comp the day they let you sign up for it!! You will thank yourself at retirement that you did, and if you start it immediately you won't even feel the contributions and they will grow. Just do it!

2020.08.16 17:40 Noovaoo The Chamógelo

**I would like to put a disclaimer here, that all names in the following will be those of pseudonyms. I am not going to disclose the company I work for, and no direct quotes will be used either, everything will be paraphrased. Though I have asked the people related to this story if they were comfortable with me finally disclosing the following events, I don’t want to bring anyone else into the messy situation that this was. Thank you.
Legends have been told in many different ways. There are the myths, the unsolved mysteries and the stories that can send a shiver up anyone’s spine. Places like the catacombs in Paris, the many tunnels around the world rumoured to be laced with undead spirits and bones of the innocent; and the fact that we have only explored nearly 5% of the oceans around us. Of course, many of these tales come from historical stories, campfire fables and articles and blogs from bored teenagers who want to scare someone, like all of those creepypasta stories on the internet. But the following, oh god, the following is absolutely true.
Please do not ever think that The Chamógelo is fake.
I was a journalist in my early twenties, still am to this day. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University and thought that well, my life was going to be pretty decent.
I had my career goal just ahead of me and felt comfortable financially with my new job. It was nice; plus I got to see the world for what it was, not the prettied up shit that I wrote in the newspaper. But anyway, journalism brought me anywhere I wanted around the world. Of course, I had to get through all of the ranks to be able to travel first; but as soon as I was allowed to, it was like my dream had finally come true.
I never stayed in one country too long, and actually got to visit a majority of the world. I covered the stories that no one else would, went to the most upsetting countries and locations just to get the story from the people there, and not just copying what another journalist had written online. I soon became the go-to guy for questions about places, and the one they would always choose to send to the newest devastated country. It was taxing, I will admit, but it was my passion.
I don’t remember exactly when this was, but it was sometime in the late 2000s, let’s say 2009 just to give it an actual year. I know not remembering this may seem fake, but my memory from the early 2000s was so blurred because of this incident and I genuinely do not remember much from 2009-2012, so I just assume that such was because of what had happened.
I had just arrived back in New York from a long, excruciating “mission” to Cambodia; taking notes and interviews from the locals about the hauntings of the mysterious Koh Kor island. That was mainly what I did. Many people would classify my work to be that of a paranormal investigator, but I would have to disagree. I never actually believed in ghosts, ghouls or hauntings which was why I was a perfect candidate to send off to these locations. I wouldn’t just shit my pants and run home, no. I stayed for the amount of time given to me by the newspaper and came home when my welcome was finished. Half of the time my scoop didn’t even make it into the papers, but I always posted it online. The world was growing out of the newspaper anyway, so I quickly turned to online blogging and news outlets. But that’s not my point. I had just returned from Cambodia; excited for my break from the catastrophes in different countries, and the exhaustion that came along with jet-lag, exploration and just talking.
I stepped into my dusty house, alone and ready to sleep for an uninterrupted fifteen hours before my phone rang.
It was Micheal Lewis the head reporter, and my boss. We did the casual back and forth of my travels before Mr. Lewis decided to address the reason he called. From my memory; this is what he said:
“I was actually hoping to catch you at the airport, kid.” He started, but I didn’t reply in the second of silence in the air. He began again.
“So, listen. You’re familiar with Greece, right? I mean you’ve been there before and liked it enough, so I’m sending you back. We’ve heard reports of this bullshit hoax called the Smiler, or the Grinner or something up in Athens and we want you to check it out.” Micheal paused again, and this time I decided to speak up.
“Yeah, okay. Uh, listen, Mr. Lewis, I can’t function right now, can we push it until next week?” I assumed that was a pretty straightforward request. It wasn’t like he was the one running around from different countries and feeling all of the physical effects; now was he?
“Sure kid, does Tuesday work for ya?” I rolled my eyes. It was Sunday when he called.
“Yeah, sure,” I said in a monotonous tone before he and I said our goodbyes. I couldn’t even get a week?
Putting that aside though, I didn’t think about Greece for the next day and a half. I slept for as long as my body would physically let me, and when I woke up I began packing. Late on Monday, I received a plane ticket and quite a lot of greek currency in my mailbox; the standard protocol for my seedy boss, How he got the money? I never asked, I never wanted to. I just did what I was told. The more I think about it now, I can see that this whole thing was wrong. This was not how a corporation worked, I was basically an information mule for my company. Regardless of that though, I did my packing and was on the next plane to Greece.
Don’t get me wrong here, I love Greece. It is a beautiful, rich country with more history than the majority of Europe and the Americas combined. This place was my dream location; and I always wanted to retire into one of the beautiful, village-like homes on the coast; overlooking the seas. I always took the opportunity to visit any part of Greece, and always will. Still, to this day I make occasional visits there. I have ties in that country; so if I ever need a place to stay, I basically have a second family there.
And that was who I was going to meet with.
They were a nice family, I mean they are a nice family. The Johnsons were always the first to meet me in Greece, they still are, but what happened sort of put our relationship on hold. This was a very basic family, the Father, the Mother, and two lovely children who I have also decided not to gender. These four grew to be my very close friends. They always had an extra room for me, taught me almost all I know about Greece and genuinely cared for me as one of their own. I was in my early twenties when this story happened, so I was fairly new to travelling at that point and I believe that this was only my second location in the world; so this was the first time I was even meeting my “vacation family” as they called themselves. Oh, how I wish that was all this was; a vacation.
Anyway, we met up and I made my way to my semi-permanent AirBNB. The house was lovely, the family as well, and I genuinely didn’t even want to go on whatever this expedition was going to bring me to; because I was jetlagged, tired and at the time; being pampered by this caring family. I was living the dream, or so I was for about a day, and then I snapped back into reality and realized I had to go to the actual location of the “phenomena” and do my usual investigation or whatever it would be called.
A typical hunt for me included bringing a camera, and a notebook to the area I was supposed to visit; ask the locals about the legend and then go and try to seek it out for myself. Over twenty years of doing this job; I have yet to see anything as terrifying as what I came across that day.
I cannot stress this enough, please never go looking for the Chamógelo, the Grinner, or whatever the people near you call it. I am going to tell you my uncut, true story about this thing, this it, that cannot even be classified as a creature. I am not saying not to look for anything, but god, do not look for this fucking thing. You will absolutely regret it. I do.
So, instead of you going and risking your life to seek out the adrenaline rush that I got from this, I am just going to tell you exactly what happened, sparing no details. I have finally come to terms with what happened in Greece, and I am ready to tell my story. This is a completely true recount of my time in Pentili, Athens’ second highest mountain, and the most truly haunted place that I have ever visited.
So, I don’t recall the exact dates of this event. Like I said before, 2009. I was a twenty-two-year-old trying to get the adrenaline high of a lifetime. When I entered the journaling corporation; Micheal Lewis, my boss, was infatuated with the idea of a young person like me travelling the world as a skeptic and myth-busting creepy legends and stories. For the most part, I was never put into dangerous positions and would often just be sent to prisons, tunnels and asylums around the world, all of which were heavily maintained by the tourist companies that owned them. These were business schemes to drag in bored teenagers and curious adults to read the newspaper again; and though my stories only made it in half the time, I was having fun so why not just continue, right? This being one of my first expeditions, I was ecstatic. I got to climb a mountain with only myself, and the information I brought with me, which included everything I needed to know about the Greek wilderness, a safety guide on how to climb a mountain and of course, the urban legend I was to investigate.
This, unlike any of the other stories I had heard; was actually fascinating to me. The story went; “Εάν φτάσετε στο σπήλαιο Νταβίλη στο δεύτερο υψηλότερο ελληνικό βουνό και απαγγείλετε τη δεδομένη φράση, το Chamógelo θα κάνει μια σύντομη εμφάνιση που δεν θα ξεχάσει ποτέ.” which, in English, roughly translates to; “If you reach the Davelis cave on the second-highest Greek mountain and recite the given phrase, Chamógelo will make a short appearance that you will never forget.” Now, let me make this clear. I was so excited. I didn’t have all of my bearings but I figured I would be fine.
Also, another thing, I refuse to give anyone the phrase that I used. I do not want any readers going to try and find this thing for themselves, and am only disclosing this story because I feel that the world will not be as daft as it once was. But for precaution, the line I recited will not be found anywhere in this retelling.
After interviewing some of the older locals and the Johnsons about this creature, I was met with stories of terror and deformity beyond recognition. I was warned not to go to the cave, not even to step foot unto that cursed mountain; but I didn’t listen. No, I was far too excited now. Anything that caused the locals this much terror was something I needed to see and experience. I wish now that I had listened, and the Johnsons will forever judge me for what I did. But I was just a kid, I didn’t know how bad it could be. I am only writing this to warn you, no matter how fake, or silly this may sound it is more than true, please don’t take this warning for granted. Never visit that cave.
I went alone up the mountain. The kind tour guides of Greece gave me a very brief rundown at the bottom of the summit, before scurrying away to live their personal lives. I thought nothing of the agitations that the locals performed at the end of the trail or the fact that they nearly ran away from the beginning of the hill. No, I was simply too caught up in the fact that I would be getting the hike of a lifetime. This was my first mountain climbing experience and I was so excited to commit to it. Now, that was an understatement. Not even regarding the events that took place inside of the dreadful cave; I was on that mountain, just climbing to my destination for nearly four days.
The hike was treacherous. I was running low on food; my water supply had vanished by the end of day three, and I was quick to assume that my death was going to be slow and painful, not induced by the horror that awaited me in the cave. Fortunately, though, the guides had told me that once I reached the Davelis caves and recited the given phrase, my “Greatest wishes would be granted” and that a large feast would be waiting for me. I doubted it at the beginning of my trek, but the farther I climbed the more I believed such a thing, and by the end of day four I felt my mouth watering and anticipation heighten. The mountain was already playing tricks on me, but all I wanted in my delusional state was the rumoured meats and cheeses I would be met with upon reaching the cave. It was said that there was nothing in the world that could make a person happier. I would be smiling forever, they said.
By the end of my fourth day, I had reached the climax of my journey; the great cave that I was destined at the beginning of the trek to approach, and there it was. It was so easy to miss, only a tiny, manmade trail marked the commencement of the longer trail I had to take to get to the rumoured cave, but I noticed it right away. It was as if, in my haze, it was almost calling to me. My mouth began to salivate, my eyes were running as well. Think of it this way, this was the first time I had seen any signs of civilization in days. My stomach was beginning to eat itself by the middle of day three, and god now I know why people are quick to resort to cannibalism. It was a scary thought, yes but the way some of the preserved, but deceased hikers that I walked by were looking; it was almost too tempting. This mountain was playing tricks on me though, and I would not let it.
As I walked, no, as I crawled up the last little trail I would have to, I began hearing something. A sound that would never, ever leave my mind. In the far distance, there was a small giggle; just above the wind. I swore I heard it, and this was not just a hallucination caused by the lack of every basic necessity I needed at that point. That laugh caused a shiver to run up my spine so fast that I nearly fell down. I did keep going though; the mountain was not going to overcome me. I wouldn’t let it.
I could see it. The cave that everyone had told me about. The sound of the laughter only heightened as I neared the threshold of the Davelis Cave, but the smell of food and alcohol dragged me towards my destination. Before approaching I took a moment to stop and recite the passage, and as soon as I was done; I could smell steaks, porks, all of the meat imaginable as well as some vegetables and even a hint of a pie. The scent reminded me of what the gum that Violet from Willy Wonka, would have tasted like. This smell was excruciatingly delicious, and when I climbed up those steps, bearded and tattered, all I saw on the stone slab for a table, was the most delicious food I have ever seen in my life. The thought of how it got there, or why, didn’t even cross my mind. I had found the food I was promised, and though the main goal of this expedition was more vital than a three-course meal, I didn’t stop myself from starting to eat. The more I ate, the more laughter I could hear and the louder it became. It was not a nice laugh, not a welcoming one either. No, it was the laugh of someone, something who was in all ways insane. I personally had never heard anything like it. Not even the iconic Joker’s laugh could have compared to the maniacal tone within this gutted, loud howling that ricocheted off of the walls surrounding me in the cave. But, I ignored it and continued eating.
Until I was full, the laughter did not stop me from gorging myself with as much food as possible, and when I truly could not eat a single bite more, I began what I came here to do. Unbunk the myth regarding The Chamógelo.
This laugh, I can remember, was becoming so deafening. My head began to pound as I looked through this enormous cave structure to see what, or who I could find. Normally, this would have freaked me out, but after being stranded alone on a terribly cold mountain, I wanted to meet this person. To interview them. They must have been there, right? I mean, maybe whoever it was was in the same situation as me. They came to investigate the mystery and stayed for the beautiful food left on the table by the force unknown. Or perhaps, they were the chef who made all of the delicious food for me.
Whoever they were, I wanted to know more about them. The booming laughter was everywhere now, and it did not sound happy in any way. But I kept on. I recall having spent nearly four or five hours in the cave before finding the person I was looking for; five hours of feeling so full I could be sick, so cold I could fall over at any moment and my head was so sore from this laughter that I nearly turned back. And that was when it got me. As soon as I felt too weak to continue myself, the room I entered next was the room that I had been looking for. This was the room of The Chamógelo, and I had just found it.
Please, if you are already convinced not to go to these fucking caves; stop reading. If not though, please continue because if this doesn’t change your mind maybe you deserve to be its next victim.
What was once likely a very beautiful young woman, was now nothing more than a terrifying husk. The body of whatever this thing was, was elongated, and a terrible austere colour that I hope never to see again. Its naked body was that of a woman’s, but the figure on this creature was completely gone.
Her, no, its breasts had for some reason been torn off and discarded somewhere in the rotten-smelling room, and the hands of this creature were fingerless; but bound tightly with blades protruding from the nooks in its knuckles. I can only assume what was done with those rusty, blood-crusted blades, but frankly, that was when I wanted to leave. I know, I was naive and stubborn but usually, these things were put in places like this to scare away tourists and keep the story going. I knew this thing was not fake. I knew when I saw its terrible face. A face that could not have been replicated by anyone in fear of death just from the sight.
The eyes were hollowed out, and just two black masses with the decaying sclera still drooping from the empty sockets. The nose, well there was no nose at all. It had looked like this creature was made without such a feature and it was disturbing to look at. But the mouth, that fucking mouth still haunts my dreams every night. There was already nothing natural about this moaning, laughing creature, but that mouth is going to haunt me forever. When someone says that one has a smile to both of there ears; that would be an understatement for this thing. Its mouth was pinned to the side of its head by what I can only describe as medieval safety pins. There were no lips, just a giant crater in its face pinned up to appear to be smiling. The skin around this makeshift mouth was creased, bloodied and rotted making me have to assume that this was made to appear like this. Maybe it did it to itself, or maybe The Chamógelo had a maker once upon a time. Whatever it was, that mouth was not something that a human could have done to itself so I do not know, or even want to know how it got there. Inside of this crevice were rows of sharpened teeth, skin fragments and bones stuck between each tooth; and I can safely say that none of these were without bloodstains.
That was all I allowed myself to take in, before turning around and running back out. But it saw me. It saw me and chased me on those legs that I could only have assumed would have broken under the strain. I had more than three hours to run out of this building, or at least I thought I did, but when I rounded the corner I saw the table where I had my feast. It was impossible, but so was the existence of the creature, so I did not question it.
On the table, where I assumed to be the remnants of a great meal, were nothing but rotting bones and decaying human flesh. I looked down at my hands and saw that the rib sauce and dressings that I thought I had caked onto my fingers, was actually a dried red crimson colour. It was blood.
I had eaten humans.
I started to yell and sob but forgot that I had to escape. This creature was still behind me and was catching up very quickly. Before I had time to start running to that door, that door that was not even two metres away, I fell, and The Chamógelo landed on top of me.
I thought this was going to be my death, and sometimes I wish it was. I assumed that I was going to end up on the table of meat and death; just like the humans I had eaten when I arrived. The creature loomed over me, its mouth or whatever that could be called was writhing, it was attempting to smile; even with its permanent grin already attached. The creature pinned me down and stared at me. Regardless of having no eyes in its sockets, it was staring right at me. Drool began to fall from its hole onto my face and chest, but my consciousness was wavering, and soon I felt nothing. The monster towering over me was the last thing I saw, that fucking laughter was the last thing I heard, and when I woke up I was met by the locals I had seen the week before; screaming and yelling for help.
According to the Johnson family, I had come back six days after I left. That meant that this creature kept me in its lair for two more days than I had arrived, and I have no recollection of any of it. They also said that when I came down, the locals had apparently heard laughter coming from up the trail, but no sign of anyone; even with an extensive search.
You’re probably wondering why it didn’t kill me, and I honestly wish I could answer that for you. Frankly, I believe my life would have been easier if it just had.
After the ordeal at the mountain, the Johnsons took me back into their arms; though disappointed in me for not believing them. They healed and nurtured me until Micheal Lewis arrived later in the next week to aid me home.
I will never forget the face of that man when he saw me again. He looked scared, scared of me.
The creature had mutilated me in the cave. I was not in any pain when I woke up, but I still cannot look into a mirror without hearing the sound of that insanity-inducing laughter. I am writing this, sitting in my office with the screen on my computer as bright as it can be; as to avoid catching a glimpse of my face. The face that I used to love, the face that picked up so many attractive partners through the years. I still wish I had listened to everyone’s stories closely, and I wish that I could have taken back my naivety and childishness before trekking up that cursed mountain and doing this to myself.
Please do not go and try to find The Chamógelo in Greece. The creature might not spare your life as it did mine. I cannot have anyone else meeting the same fate as the table of human decay, or the fact that I cannot even look at myself without remembering that terrible time. I wish you the best of luck if you are a traveller, and I do hope you go and solve some myths out there, but if you ever hear a story about The Chamógelo, The Grinner, or any other variation of such; do not investigate. It could cost you your life. Or your sanity. I still hear that distant laughter every time I shut my eyes.

2020.07.22 15:55 cesly1987 Lost in the Endless

We walked on and on, the four of us, me, my girlfriend, my brother, and his girlfriend. Hope of a rescue was beginning to fade.
The forest around us was suffocating, pushing up against us as we walked through the thorns and brambles of the undergrowth. Barely any sky could be seen through the treetops, but what could be seen was the dark blue of pre-dawn.
We had been walking for hours, and the sun never rose. My watch said it was 4PM. We had been walking now for about half the day.
The others were starting to panic and I couldn't blame them. The surrounding forest was dead quiet, no animals made any noise, and no bugs skittered underneath, no birds in the trees. The forest didn't even look the same. The trees were tall and thin, surrounded by vines of thorns, the trunks only growing 2 to 3 feet apart.
I turned back to my girlfriend ,Kaycee. She was covered with tiny scratches from the thorns, her face stained with dirt and tears.
"What do we do?" She asked frightfully. I thought for a moment. We had followed the compass north. We should have come across a rode, a town, or civilization. Hell, a landmark of any kind would be nice. But it was all flat ground, and the same trees, and the dead silence, and the unchanging sky.
There was a smell though. A wet sour smell. It permeated everything. It even soaked into my clothes, into the taste of the food we brought.
It had all started as a camping trip to the local state park. I had been many times to the park with my brother during the past, and once with my girlfriend. This was the first time we were all getting together, my brother bringing along his new girlfriend.
We left the parking lot to head towards our usual camping ground on a sunny morning. It would be about a 20 minute hike to our chosen camp site. It was a nice cleared out area, next to a pond with big jutting rocks on one side. I would climb those rocks as a kid, and my girlfriend used them to sunbathe on our last visit.
Things went bad about 10 minutes into our trek to the camp ground. The sky darkened and the trees pushed in, getting tighter and tighter. And of course, there was the sour smell, it flooded the area and stuck to the back of my throat.
Our surroundings had become completely different and alien. It seemed like we were in a completely different forest. We were originally heading south, so we promptly turned around to head back north.
We had been walking for hours now, and still haven't left the strange forest
We finally had to set up camp for rest. We were huddled together, the trees forcing us to be close to eachother. I leaned around a tree to talk with my brother, Dave.
"Did somebody drug us, Like human trafficking or sometime? And we just woke up here in these unfamiliar woods. That why we don't remember the time between!" I offered up.
"Once I took an Ambien, and I didn't even know I fell asleep. Next thing I know, I'm at work the next day! I didn't remember driving or anything!" Jack's girlfriend, Sharon, agreed with me by nodding her head.
"No, this is some supernatural shit!" my brother Dave interjected. "How do you not admit this, even now?" he scolded at me. To my ire, my girlfriend nodded in agreement with him.
Dave had always been a believer in the paranormal. He watched all those stupid ghost shows and was way too into Ancient Aliens when that show was a thing. He swore to death we had both seen a ghost when we were kids, at our old house. I didn't remember any of it, and he told me I must have blocked it out because it was too world shattering for me. I think I didn't remember it because it never happened.
I wasn't a die hard skeptic. I was vaguely religious. I believed in the afterlife. But call me a doubting Thomas. I needed physical proof before I devoted any physical action towards something. But all this was too much. Did my brother really think we were on another planet or something?
"It's like the Upside-down," my GF, Kaycee, said. I looked at her like she was a crazy person. We had both watched Stranger Things on Netflix together. Now she was insinuating we were in the spooky world from the show?
"Or we are in Hell," said Sharon. I looked at her with a sense of betrayal. How could she go from being a skeptic to full blown tin foil hat?
Her statement held in the air between the four of us. Sharon had a vacant look. Did she believe she deserved Hell?
"It is exactly how I imagined it," she said, looking down, her voice breaking at the end.
"What? Hell?" I asked back immediately.
"No, the forest. I was a little afraid of camping in the woods at night. A couple of nights ago I had" Sharon paused, thinking of the words, " a stress dream about the trip. In the dream we couldn't find our way out. It wasn't scary, just frustrating, like dreaming you're back at work or school."
"I used to have them when I was a sleep deprived server, and full time student last year," My girlfriend chimed in. " I would dream I would be triple sat by the hostess, and I couldn't find my pen, orders weren't right, and customers were assholes. I would wake up so angry."
"Exactly!" Sharon responded. " In my dream it was this same bland, suffocating forest." she was crying. "Now, I'm just waiting to wake up."
Since I had been nominated as the defacto leader, I told the three to change the subject. We would eat, sleep a little, and continue north.
The hours past ad nauseam for over the next 48 hours. We had left lots of our food supplies in my brother's car. The plan was to make a trip back for the cooler after we had the camp set up. So now we only had food for the next three days, if we rationed severely.
We kept heading north, the only direction we had to follow. The woods remained the same, like a lazy video game developer just copied and pasted the same tree over and over again. The sky remained the same, a dark blue with no stars, no clouds. The only thing that changed was the smell.
The sickly sweet smell got worse and worse. I felt the urge to spit, because the taste was heavy in my mouth, but I needed all the liquid I had to stay in my body.
The first day there was a lot of arguing, between all of us. It was a free-for-all of emotions. We all tried to rationalize what was happening, and nothing made sense.
The second day (we counted days by sleep) we all tried to not fight and get along. We had to work together to get through this. We marched forward like soldiers heading to an epic battle. But nothing changed, the supplies dwindled, and hope was flickering out.
The third day all hope was lost. I led us ever north, but they followed with heads down and eyes sullen. It was like we were prisoners on a death march now.
When we called it quits on the third day, we all sat in separate corners, not talking. I turned my phone on for the last time. I had been conserving battery, but it was at 5 percent now, and I need to see something other than the forest around me to keep me sane.
I flipped through my pictures. The pictures went back years. Me and my parents, me and Dave, my pets, and me and Kaycee happy on dates. It was exactly what I needed. I called Kaycee over to look at the pics with me.
Dave and Sharon sat separate, both staring vacantly out into the forest.
"It's like the backrooms," Dave said out loud to no one in particular.
"What's that?" Sharon asked, snapping out of her daze.
"It's a creepypasta, or an internet story. It's this world beneath or parallel to ours," he explained. "It's just random rooms over and over. Like a video game set to create random environments. You reach it when you glitch out of reality. It's like a developer failsafe, or that's how I interpret it."
"But it's fake," I stated. At the same time Kaycee spoke over me.
"Can you escape it?" she asked much louder.
"Yes you can, but it's convoluted. New writers keep changing up the rules," Dave said back to Kaycee, ignoring my statement.
"I mean," my bro continued, " it makes sense the backrooms are rooms in a city setting, but what if it's this bland forest in outdoor settings?"
"It's not real!" I almost screamed. "It's a story created by edgy teenagers and 30 year olds still living with their mother's!"
"It makes more sense than marching north continuously hoping to magically end up back at our car!" Dave screamed back. "You're literally a skeptic living in a real waking nightmare. Now you just look like a dumbass!"
I felt like hitting him, and I almost launched over and did. Kaycee grabbed my arm hard and Sharon spoke up.
"It doesn't matter" she said, breaking into tears." We are in Hell and it is very real! Or at least limbo."
"Have any of you used the restroom since we've been here?" Sharon continued, her voice growing angry as tears streamed down her face. " Have you even taken a piss? Have you even been hungry? We eat out of habit! Do you even taste it?"
We all sat silent, thinking.
"You can't even have sex," Sharon spouted. "Me and Dave tried! You feel nothing!"
Dave's face went bright red, and me and Kaycee got second hand embarrassment from him. We knew they went out of sight the other day. We figured what was up, we just didn't want to know the details.
"It's stress," I muttered. "The body locks up. It cuts out all non essential functions for survival. People in war time have been known to-"
"I don't care anymore!" She interrupted my feeble attempt at an explanation. "I just want this to be over. If I have to die to do so, then I want to die!"
At that moment I heard two tremendous crashes behind me. I was the one in the group sitting the furthest north, facing back south, to talk with my friends. Something gigantic moved over the trees above me. I saw Sharon look up in horror as a giant object, as tall and wide as an oak tree, slammed down onto her, shattering the tree she was leaning against, and pulverizing her body into red mush.
We all screamed and jumped up. All I saw left of Sharon was a right leg, separated at the knee. I looked up to see massive object blotting out the sky. I realized I was looking up at the underside of a giant creature.
It walked on two large, but thin legs, compared to the rest of its body. One of its legs had come down on Sharon, the other was straddled somewhere behind me. The legs stretched upwards about 50 feet to a large bulbous black mass. The underside of this mass opened up like a curved smile, dropping mucus and spit upon us like rain. Inside this horrid mouth-like opening were white teeth, but these teeth were white human skulls. The skull's all lined up beside eachother. They all screamed down at me.
To our credit, the three of us all took off in the same direction. Moments after escaping the campsite, the mouth dropped down to slam into the ground where we had been. Trees splintered and exploded. The massive skull filled mouth taking a giant bite out of the earth. As it lifted back up, dirt and mucus rained everywhere.
We ran for at least 10 minutes at top speed. It was easy to keep track of each other, being to only other things making noise and moving in the drab woods.
At first we could hear the massive footsteps following us, but when those faded we slowed down to a speed walk, trying to catch our breaths.
"Did you see that thing?" my brother wheezed, asking the stupidest question in history. "It was a titan, like from the anime!"
"What?" I said. " It was a blob with human skulls for teeth!" I corrected.
"I saw a clown," Kaycee added. "A giant harlequin clown, tall like it was on stilts. It killed Sharon!"
The one thing we all agreed on was it killed Sharon. So we kept power walking, and when the booming footsteps got too loud, we sprinted again.
Even though hunger and bodily functions didn't affect us here, fatigue did. We were always tired, and we were all about to drop from exhaustion.
That's when my brother grabbed my shoulder and spun me around. We all stopped for a moment.
"I'll run back the opposite direction. I'll run by it and peel it off from you two."
"Hell no! Stop with this hero shit!" I said to him.
"I wasn't asking little brother," he smiled. "Besides, there's a 50 percent chance it will keep chasing you two, and I'll be free. If we stay together, we all get tired and die together."
"I have to at least say goodbye to Sharon. I brought her here to die. I at least owe her that," he said flatly.
With a final "I love you, bro," he turned and jogged off in the other direction. Me and Kaycee kept heading north, and the stomping from behind faded away.
We walked together, shoulder to shoulder. I held most of her weight as we trudged forward. She had given up, but I hadn't just yet. The only thing that kept me going was the 'why' of all of this.
Why had all of our lives been destroyed in the matter of days? Why did the forest look like the dream Sharon had? Why did the creature look different to all of us? I had to know!
"I just wish we could have found our campsite," Kaycee croaked. "I was so excited for this trip. I just want to see it one more time."
And just as she wished, we staggered through the trees a little while longer. We came out into a clearing, and there it was, the campsite she had asked for, the pond with the rocks stacked up beside it. But it wasn't quite right.
The pond was shaped different, and the water was clearer looking, and the rock formation on the side was bigger, like how I remembered them when I was a kid.
Kaycee laughed a dry life,"It was my death wish." She urged me to take her atop the rocks. Instead of being 20 feet high, it was at least 35 to 40 feet.
Once we got to the top of the big rock, she went to the middle and laid down, like she would when she sunbathed. I knelt down beside her and she pulled me close.
"This is fine. I want to die here beside you. I just want to sleep, not be killed by that wicked thing." She pulled me to lay down, but I refused her. "Just lay here with me. Let's just go together," she urged.
"I have to know," I whispered to her. "I have to know why it happened. Why do we all have to die here?"
"Just ask, babe," she said. She closed her eyes and smiled. "I'll wait for you."
And with that she exhaled, and the color left her face. Her red lips turned gray, and her blonde hair turned white. I knew she was dead, just like she asked.
I knelt over her and wept. Once again I heard the booming footsteps approaching. I knew Dave was dead. The thing had caught up with him, probably when he finally said goodbye to Sharon. It was his dying wish.
I stared out to the infinite trees around me. I could imagine it was the same panorama view of trees behind me also. The only difference would be the monster slowly plodding it's way towards me.
"Just tell me why, and I'll let you kill me. If not, I will run forever. I'll make you chase me forever," I said to anyone and noone.
I heard a thunderous boom behind me, the rocks shook and I fell forward onto my face. In an instant I felt a presence in my mind, and I knew things.I knew the monster had teleported the rest of the distance to land right behind me. I had summoned it. The sour stench was overwhelming and my fear level was off the charts.
I knew if I turned around it would be bigger and more hideous than before. I just knew it had taken the form of something I truly feared. It was now something unfathomable and cruel. A monster customized to terrify only me, to kill only me.
I knew it would drive me mad just to glance at it. So I laid on my face and dared not move. I knew now that the compass was leading us to this thing the whole time. I knew if I pulled out my compass it would say north was directly behind me, where this thing stood. This whole time we had been marching towards our executioner.
Its stench flooded my senses, and I could hear its wet sickly breathing, like the sound of a beached whale dying.
"Tell me why!" I screamed with madness. "Why are we condemned to die here?!"
I felt a tickling in my head, and I felt a full blown panic attack coming on. It was trying to speak to me, and my mind was about to break because of it. I had to hold on to sanity long enough to get my answers.
"Why?" I asked again.
Its voice shot like lightning through my mind. A thousand words in a thousand different languages, all flowing around each other to form a single idea. It felt like millions of years worth of knowledge had been dumped into my brain. Things noone should know. But in this madness I got my explanation.
I began clawing at my face and screaming. It told me I was dying for no reason. It told me there are places on Earth where the veil between realities is thinner. They used to be used by ancient gods from eternity past, from before the big bang, from beyond time. They had eventually built safe guards around these portals to keep entities from invading other realms.
We could have walked into an alternate dimension exactly like our own and never realized. But now the portals were booby trapped. If anyone now tried to travel between realms, it would spit them out in a side dimension, a bleak non-world sealed away from reality. The world would form to whoever had been trapped here, and whoever was trapped would eventually be killed by this creature, this warden between realities.
It showed me that this plain of existence had been darkness before we showed up. As we entered it had been created. As soon as we had entered, we had been condemned to die. Condemned for breaking a law we did not know, made by beings that did not care.
I was now dying in a pool of my own blood, my eyes missing, and my throat torn out by my own hand.
I asked one last thing in my mind before I died.
"Will we be stuck here after death?"
The answer was "No," we would pass on from this realm upon our death. I died in agony with only this to comfort me.
You see, I was a skeptic, but I believed in the afterlife. At least I would escape this place in death, and maybe Kaycee was waiting for me.

2020.07.21 22:28 340340 The pitch for Freddit, on a Molten Freddy story. I tried mkay.

Alright, I didn't have this prepared, and on top of that I had to step away for a good while before I got to type. Sorry if the lack of formatting drives y'all as mad as you're probably now suspecting me to be...
Okay, so the protagonist of this one is a Dib Membrane type paranormal obsessed high schooler living in rural Utah. Spends free time combing through forums, reading scary stories and generally being the kind of harmless annoying neighbor you're getting the picture of. I guess I'll call em Dave for now. So Dave here has started experimenting with the legends of the area. Around the time of the story's beginning he's been going into the woods a couple miles from his neighborhood and setting up hunting cameras, hoping to form a local story of his own.
While waiting for his big breakthrough, the discovery of a sasquatch or a skinwalker in the area, something completely new appears on a local forum. A short clip of a backyard surveillance camera, the date in the corner says this went down only last night. The time reads 3:28AM when something or other crawls into the yard. The camera doesn't catch the edge of the property, but this thing skirts the edge of the back fence, and moves down across the other side of the camera view. With the distance and the poor video quality combined, it's hard to make out details. The thing's shape and movements lead the uploader to call it a living corpse in his post. Shapeless body with two front legs, dragging itself through the grass, it appears to be missing legs. At the front is a misshapen, unidentifiable head with two piercing eyes in their sunken sockets. The "skull" looking head is really the only piece that appears to have structure.
So the thing was apparently sighted only miles off from Dave's, the guy lives right by a national park and desktop detectives are suspecting the thing came from the park, going off the info the user gave them and the direction the corpse came from. Dave is ecstatic. He's already forming a plan to get a chance to go out there and see for himself, he's agreed to meet an online friend there. While at school he learns of the disappearance of a classmate's younger sister, who at some point or another ran off during a hike through said park. The parents didn't see where she went, search parties have found nothing so far. Good old Dave is primarily focused on the fact that a disappearance happened mere hours and under a mile away from the site of his new obsession. He pisses some people off when he starts asking around for details like the area of the park they were in, if the police suspected anybody, etc.
Home that evening. The school is rattled, his parents are getting ready for date night, and they don't want Dave playing the paranormal investigator while they're out. He assures them they can trust their dear only son, so they head out. He goes and retrieves his hunting cameras for what he's telling himself will be a quick in and out mission. He just wants to meet his friend to check out the monster sightings. More forumites have been talking, another claims to have been in the park the previous evening and further solidifies the idea this creature was involved in the missing child incident. Dave, feeling unstoppable with tech in hand and visions of internet fame in mind, sets out to the meeting place.
Halfway through the drive his friend calls off. He's sure this thing isn't worth messing with, at least unarmed, and insists Dave back off until his smooth talking kicks in, and he assures the friend that he'll play it safe, he's brought a can of mace and a baton in his kit, and there's nothing to worry about. The first bit, as you might expect, is a dirty lie, the second was proven true when we saw Dave packing, and the third he seems to believe out of his lack of a sense of danger. So he makes it to the woods anyways. It's real quiet nearby, almost sunset too. In and out. Sure.
While sneaking around on high alert, ready to catch footage of any odd findings and setting up his cameras on trees, he gets more and more caught up in his fantasy. Like this is a guaranteed path to getting his name on speculative talk shows, and to get his town on the map. He almost doesn't notice he's wandered up on a clearing. The only trees around are young and still small, there's something sticking up at the far end, something man-made. He goes over and finds an unlocked hatch. An old bomb shelter maybe? He knew of Cold War era preparations, and that shelters dotted the whole United States, but didn't expect in his lifetime he'd walk right up to one. Anyways the hatch is unlocked, and it doesn't look like anyone has been here in ages. No trash or tracks, but while logic would tell us the place is probably cleared out by now, curiosity makes him climb in.
All empty rooms, save for some old furniture, signs never taken down, and dust that wasn't settled quite right in most places. In every story about entering a long abandoned underground structure, he's been told to expect ancient, sealed in air and dust. But he came to realize the hatch had definitely been opened really recently. It looked like the dust in some places had been disturbed really recently, by the dragging of large bags maybe? He's only realizing here at the back of an unmapped underground building that he's extremely vulnerable. If anything saw him go in, he's at their mercy. A collapsible belt baton may not have been enough firepower after all. Something in another room breaks the silence with a sudden series of squeals and crashes. Too deliberate and too well timed to be a shelf falling, his immediate but fleeting thought. He heads for the ladder, and halfway down the hallway trips and lands pretty hard. He knew the floors were empty when he came in. Not even trying to look back at this point, the little flashlight he's been using is pointed right at the ladder, so he picks it up and moves that way.
As he rights himself and ignores the new pain in his left knee he's toppled by something loud and heavy slamming into the backs of his legs. He drops the light again, now having rolled over to the corner at the exit. A series of metallic squeaks and groans sounds from right behind him as something throws itself up against his back. He turns back towards the action and tries bringing out his baton, but what he faces makes him freeze. Already within arms reach, a pair of burning orange bulbs, surrounded by a large, face shaped frame. Just below the burning lights is a twisted maw of needle like teeth the lengths of his fingers. The creature, close enough to touch, erupts with booming laughter, made deafening by the acoustics of the narrow concrete hall. In a chorus of frighteningly human voices it chortles, and throws more of it's mass at Dave. Now face to face with the object he came to see, he wants nothing more than to get the hell out. After the third impact startles him out of his trance he throws his arms out to push the thing off. Futile. The loudest voice in the bunch fills the air again with an ear-shattering screech, like it wants to see him lock up again. Dave's "nope" instinct kicks in again and he finally brings out the baton. He's quicker than the thing, at least. It can't get a limb up in time to stop him from slamming the right side of its face, with the force to knock the beast's head back, cause splinters to fly off, and the red-orange orb he struck to extinguish. The metallic creature goes still for a moment.
This time it sounds like a woman, and it growls. It growls at him as it throws it's raised limb at his baton and shrieks once more like a banshee. The two wrestle on the floor for only a few more moments, before the thing drags more of it's seemingly endless cables over Dave's legs, up his torso pinning him and entangling him further with every struggle. It throws one limb at his head and pushes his forehead into the ground. He tries to pull it off with his only free hand, and it aims just south, at one of the only exposed pieces of skin left. Needles close around both sides of his neck, the thing squeezes, blood pours out of the arteries. It laughs again. It starts speaking, but he doesn't catch a word. Dave quickly grows cold with shock and his senses fade.
Dave slowly awakens, there's sounds in his mind, voices. Movement too. He starts to feel again, he can't feel his arms or legs, or anything identifiable for that matter, but he's being dragged. Voices in his mind go off every few seconds, some soft, clearly distressed, others loud and certain. He can start making out words and distinguishing voices, not just tones, but he can't move or even form words himself. A couple voices are talking to each other. One is whispering to itself. One erupts over all others, with the same cadence as the ones from earlier, snaps Dave to attention. It sounds like a deranged cartoon character, or a mad clown maybe. Whatever it is, it speaks directly to him, in stilted, almost scripted speech it congratulates him on his efforts. It doesn't give him time to respond, not that he can say anything. It starts talking to other loud voices, those belonging to the chorus that watched Dave's resistance with amusement. They're conversing, but something else nearby catches all of his attention. The closest tormented occupant, close enough he can feel her words like she's standing right next to him and sobbing. A small child, a small child who seems to be reacting extremely negatively at something she sees. Dave can't see though. What is this place? Slowly a picture fades in. He's granted sight through a faded and in a couple places smudged fisheye lens. As blobs of color turn to shapes, he sees that they're in the woods. Whatever he's a part of, he sees the cables move in and out of his view as the lens he's forced to see from is dragged along, part of the mass. He's in the creature. Confusion and the swirl of thoughts around him make him lose the little senses of self and of time that he had. Vision fades in and out sometimes, voices go by too fast, conversation is impossible even after he learns to "talk" and all things move at a dreamlike pace, which is to say with no real structure. There is no self anymore. He gets glimpses of trees, blood smeared metal limbs, night skies, quiet roads, homes. Whatever he's a part of, he's now trapped inside.

2020.07.19 05:50 cesly1987 Lost in the Endless

We walked on and on, the four of us, me, my girlfriend, my brother, and his girlfriend. Hope of a rescue was beginning to fade.
The forest around us was suffocating, pushing up against us as we walked through the thorns and brambles of the undergrowth. Barely any sky could be seen through the treetops, but what could be seen was the dark blue of pre-dawn.
We had been walking for hours, and the sun never rose. My watch said it was 4PM. We had been walking now for about half the day.
The others were starting to panic and I couldn't blame them. The surrounding forest was dead quiet, no animals made any noise, and no bugs skittered underneath. The forest didn't even look the same. The trees were tall and thin, surrounded by vines of thorns, growing only 2 to 3 feet apart.
I turned back to my girlfriend ,Kacee.
It would be about a 20 minute hike to our chose camp site.
We finally had to set up campfor rest. We were huddled together, the trees forcing us to be close to eachother. I leaned around a tree to talk with my brother, Jack.
I didn't remember driving or anything!" Jack's girlfriend, Sharon, agreed, with me by nodding her head.
"No, this is some supernatural shit!" my brother Dave interjected."How do you not admit this, even now?" he scolded at me. To my ire, my girlfriend nodded in agreement with him.
Jack had always been a believer in the paranormal.
"Now,I'm just waiting to wake up."
"It doesn't matter" she said, breaking into tears. We are in Hell and it is very real! Or at least limbo.
At first we could hear the massive footsteps following us, but when those faded we slowed it down to a speed walk, trying to catch our breaths.
The only thing that kept me going was all 'why' of all of this.
Why had all of our lives been destroyed in the matter of days? Why dud the forest look like the dream Sharon had?
Instead of being 20 fear high, it was at least 35 to 40 feet.
This whole time we had been marching to our executioner.

2020.07.18 06:15 cesly1987 Lost in the Endless

"I have to know," I whispered to her. "I have to know why it happened. Why do we all have to die here?"
"Just ask, babe," she said. She closed her eyes and smiled. "I'll wait for you."

"It doesn't matter" she said, breaking into tears. We are in Hell and it is very real! Or at least limbo.
At first we could hear the massive footsteps following us, but when those faded we slowed it down to a speed walk, trying to catch our breaths.
The only thing that kept me going was all 'why' of all of this.
Why had all of our lives been destroyed in the matter of days? Why dud the forest look like the dream Sharon had?
Instead of being 20 fear high, it was at least 35 to 40 feet.
This whole time we had been marching to our executioner.

2020.07.17 15:41 cesly1987 Lost in the Endless (fiction) my swing at cosmic horror

It would be about a 20 minute hike to our chose camp site.
We finally had to set up campfor rest. We were huddled together, the trees forcing us to be close to eachother. I leaned around a tree to talk with my brother, Jack.
"Now,I'm just waiting to wake up."
"It doesn't matter" she said, breaking into tears. We are in Hell and it is very real! Or at least limbo.
At first we could hear the massive footsteps following us, but when those faded we slowed it down to a speed walk, trying to catch our breaths.
