2020.06.11 23:29 JaffaCakeLad IJW: Modern Girls (1986)

A movie that's part buddy comedy as well as a romantic comedy with a splash of adventure thrown in, Modern Girls follows three best friends & a guy named Cliff who all of them barely know getting lost together amid LA's night life, & winding up with one crazy evening to remember under their belts. Starring Daphne Zuniga, Virginia Madsen, Cynthia Gibb & Clayton Rohner, it's definitely got a solid cast behind it & a fun premise on top of that.
I really, really wanted to like this- & at times, I did. As far as 80's comedies go, though, it's never anything more than middle-of-the-road, forgettable fare. The plot revolves around three roommates & best friends (Zuniga, Madsen & Gibb) who get their kicks by partying the night away most nights of the week when they're not working their miserable dead-end jobs. Kelly, Madsen's character, is the happiest & luckiest of the bunch, & also the most likely to go off & leave the others hanging at a moment's notice- which is exactly what she does, bailing on her date for the night, Cliff (Rohner), and taking the trio's only car out to meet with her asshole ex who she's still trying to get back with. For Margo (Zuniga) & CeCe (Gibb), Cliff's arrival is something of a miracle, because he's their ticket out of the apartment. They manage to coerce him into driving them around town in search of Kelly, but the night's just getting started by the time they find her.
This movie's biggest issue, sadly, is how it's written. The entire script is a mess from start to finish, with a plot that mindlessly wanders from one scene to another & takes the characters on a journey that never really goes anywhere or amounts to anything. The cast does a good job with what they're given, but their characters are all flat caricatures of 80's twenty-somethings that never feel the slightest bit authentic. It's just so phoned in & half-baked, and doesn't do the story justice- there's potential for something much better with this, but the movie almost never makes an attempt to realize it. The romance is poorly handled, & a lot of the dialogue is comical for the wrong reasons. The pacing & overall structure is all over the place- the whole thing feels so disjointed & jumbled. A scene will abruptly end, and then the next one picks up in a completely different spot without any context. Characters will make decisions that make less than no sense because the plot tells them to. There's no organic progression to anything- stuff just happens. Then more stuff happens. Then the movie ends.
As far as positives go, there are a few. The soundtrack is really good, and I recommend checking it out if you're into 80's music. The cast is likeable (even if their characters often aren't), and for what it's worth they have pretty good chemistry together. Clayton Rohner actually plays two completely different characters throughout, which I somehow didn't notice until it was over, & he does a great job at it. If bad 80's movies are your thing, you'll probably get a kick out of this- it's available on Pluto TV for free, but that's pretty much it as far as I'm aware. If it sounds like fun, give it a whirl, but don't expect anything close to a classic.

2019.05.25 01:40 Vullein070 Swamp Thing Review Megathread

Hey! We are back. Another DC Universe show, another review megathread!

Sadly, journalists are extremely divisive about this show for some reason. Some are saying it's as good as/better than Titans and Doom Patrol/ Some are saying it's the best DC show ever and then there are people saying it's worse than the CW in some aspects. What is going on?
The descriptions below the article titles don't contain spoilers. if you want to read the full article (spoilers included) please go to the article page. The press has only been shown the first two episodes, so all of these articles are about both episodes (except the TheGWW ones, which has two reviews, one for each episode).

DC Universe's Swamp Thing Relishes in the Character's Horror Roots

Although Titans and Doom Patrol flirted with horror, with its third live-action series, Swamp Thing, DC Universe gives the genre a slimy embrace that will leave viewers leery of not only every marsh and forest but of a seemingly harmless cough. The pilot episode, which premieres May 31, leans into our fears of the unknown, and the unseen, to create a tense, compelling supernatural drama with real stakes.
And make no mistake, Swamp Thing is satisfying. It doesn't require any knowledge of the comic books, whether the earliest stories by Wein and Wrightson or the 1980s resurgence by Alan Moore, Rick Veitch, and company. Sure, fans of the source material will undoubtedly be rewarded with some of the characters and references, even as they bristle at the changes. But DC Universe's Swamp Thing is able to stand on its own as thoroughly enjoyable supernatural horror.
Viewers will be drawn in by the performances of Reed and Bean, somehow charmed by the lived-in town of Marais, and unnerved by the mystery, that surrounds them all. Just watch Swamp Thing with the lights on, preferably far away from any murky waters.

Swamp Thing Review: DC Universe Nailed Horror

Like Titans and Doom Patrol, DC Universe has another potential original series hit on its hands. Swamp Thing is something completely different from the aforementioned shows and from anything else DC has put out to date. It's straight-up horror mixed with mystery. Will this show stay on the path? That's the real question, as tonally this is a more complex show that we all first thought. The first episode was surprisingly well put together and exceeded expectations, which is a task considering DC Universe's track record of A+ original series thus far.
GameSpot - Score: 8/10

SWAMP THING Is a Body Horror Mystery of the Highest Order

DC has dominated the televised comic book landscape for several years. Their CW “Arrowverse” has become an institution. Gotham on Fox lasted longer than anyone expected. And Krypton has gotten a lot of good buzz for Syfy. With their own DC Universe service, they’ve already given the world the grim Titans and had their best showing yet with Doom Patrol. But the thing about each of these series is that they’re very much superhero-centric. With DC Universe‘s next offering, Swamp Thing, they’ve got a bonafide horror-mystery series without a cape in sight, and it’s all the better for it.
From what I’ve seen so far, Swamp Thing isn’t merely the best show on a very boutique streaming service; it’s one of the best new horror series to come around in years. It doesn’t hit you over the head and its gore and scares come as part of a crescendo of tension. It’s taking its time to show us the characters and the predicament they’re in before unleashing Swamp Thing himself. That takes a massive amount of restraint. It’s clear there’s a desire to create a show for genre fans everywhere, not just die-hard comic book fans.
Swamp Thing is well worth the DC Universe subscription. I can’t wait to check out the next eight episodes to see how deep the swamp goes.

Horror Series Is Unsure What To Do With Its Muck Monster

The door is open for the series to offer a critique about the environmental destruction wrought by capitalism and industrialization, but it remains to be seen whether or not DC Universe wants to walk its nightmarish bog creature through it. It doesn’t bode well that “creative decisions” reduced the season’s length by three hours, but it’s more troubling that the first hour feels equally unfinished. And that's only partly because of the flailing, inauspicious debut its title character makes in the episode’s closing seconds.
There is hope that what remains of the season will make for a thrilling addition to the DC Universe lineup. But judging from the rough pilot episode and that the second hour is largely a boilerplate continuation of an origin story in need of some editing, Swamp Thing is going to have trudge through miles of muck in order to get there.
Screen Rant

The Scary Thing About DC Universe's Swamp Thing Is How Good It Is

Much like an actual tract of wetlands teeming with different forms of organic life, DC Universe’s Swamp Thing is a complex, interconnected system of a story. And it’s best understood when you make an effort to appreciate it from the big picture and zoomed-in perspective simultaneously.
On its face, Swamp Thing is DC’s latest live-action adaptation of the hero’s comics origin story that’s been reworked a bit to make it feel fresh. But when you take a closer look at the smaller, specific elements that create the series’ premiere, the show reveals itself to be much more than a simple attempt at making Swamp Thing cool.
Swamp Thing has always been the sort of character that either immediately spoke to you in a profound way or didn’t. It’s why, even though he’s never been one of DC’s most high-profile heroes, he’s enjoyed a surprisingly large number of appearances across animated series over the years and was the lead of two live-action movies in the ‘80s. Because Swamp Thing’s first episode is designed to introduce you to its general world and establish the overarching horror themes that define the series, it works as an interesting entry point regardless of how familiar you are with the source material.
The strength of Swamp Thing’s pilot makes the recent news that Warner Bros. chose to cut the season’s length down to 10 episodes from 13 that much more curious because you can clearly see that the journey the show wants to take you on has levels of depth to it that deserve thorough unpacking. Even if the premiere wasn’t strong on its own, the potential the series has to delve even deeper into Swamp Thing’s canonical, existential weirdness makes it worth keeping an eye on.

SWAMP THING, a mucky beginning for everyone’s favorite monster

The Beat received the opportunity to watch the first episode this week, and I'm loathed to say, it falls short of the heightened expectations that the respective pedigree demands. Honestly, in some ways, it even falls short of the low bar set by some of its brethren on the CW. Let me see if I can unpack that thought a bit…
The Beat

“Swamp Thing” Brings Body Horror Scares and Loads of Potential to DC Universe

Swamp Thing has a truly unique aesthetic and visual tone for any DC show or film we’ve seen in years and takes full advantage of the DC Universe’s R-rated approach with fantastic creature effects and body-horror inspirations. It is too early to tell how the rest of the season will play out, but fans of Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson’s swamp baby should be happy with how much potential this show has.
Bloody-Disgusting - Score: 4/5

TV REVIEW: SWAMP THING

If Swamp Thing were airing on any traditional network or cable channel, I would say it is worth checking out if you are a fan of the character and the comics. Even if it were on a streamer like Hulu or Netflix, I would probably be a little more willing to give it a full season shot. But, unless you already subscribe to DC Universe, this is far from enough of a reason to shell out for a niche product. Swamp Thing is generic and fine and doesn't have enough narratively to hook you from the outset even if the inventive monster effects are far better than most TV budgets can afford. It is also nice to see some darker superheroes getting a turn in the limelight. While seeing the talent the caliber of Will Patton chewing scenery alongside young, fresher faces is certainly giving me faith that this show could improve, there just was not enough there in the first episodes to sway me.
JoBlo - Score: 6/10

DC’s Bayou Body Horror Is Nasty, Disturbing, and Wonderful

Say what you will about DC Universe, but original series-wise the still-young streaming service is on the same trajectory as Superman himself: Up, up, and a-way better than Titans. That first series had its fans and certainly improved as it went along, but suffice it to say, it wasn’t my cup of tea. Then came Doom Patrol, which started out solid as Brendan Fraser‘s bare backside and gradually became one of the most wonderfully absurd delights on all of television. That put a lot of pressure on the big mossy shoulders of original series #3, Swamp Thing, to keep up the quality, especially in the wake of the backstage wonkiness that cut its originally-ordered 13 episodes to 10. Well, I’m here to report that Swamp Thing, at least in its first two episodes, not only ups the ante, it’s also a triumph on pretty much every level, a nasty, gleefully disturbing bit of body horror on the Louisiana bayou that evokes everything from John Carpenter‘s The Thing to executive-producer James Wan‘s work with the Trench in Aquaman. It’s 2019, man, and it looks like it’s officially time to go green.
But the real miracle here is that Swamp Thing still manages to feel like a human show. Abby Arcane is an effective entry point into the madness; she brings back to her hometown a dark secret from her past that Reed manages to tease out through haunted looks and sentences cut just short. She has an easy chemistry with a pre-monster Bean, whose oddball charisma makes you sad that he has to turn into Swamp Thing on a show literally called Swamp Thing. But of course, it’s Mears pulling the real magic trick here. He doesn’t speak a single word over the first two episodes because he doesn’t need to. Mears injects a potent dose of rage, confusion, and sadness into Swamp Thing with his face, the way he stands, the way he stumbles against a tree.
Collider - Score: 4/5

Swamp Thing breaks a sweat embracing backwoods horror

“Swamp Thing” is just the latest ripped-from-the-comics series to hit the DC Universe streaming service, but it’s the first to skew toward the horror genre – and it doesn’t just dip a toe in it. It throws its whole body in headfirst.
Strikingly scary and, at times, flat-out disgusting, the show stands out among comic book TV adaptations that usually aim for a middle-of-the-road audience. The CW’s Arrowverse (“Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl”) employs dark elements, but it is ultimately rooted in the power of the light.
That’s not the case with “Swamp Thing,” which leans heavily into the darkness, and doesn’t shy away from the gore, foul language and tragedy of life in its tale of nature gone rogue.
It’s a deadly cocktail of moss and mutation that births the Swamp Thing, an elemental hero out to protect the planet against those who seek to harm it for profit – something all of Marais is fighting to get a piece of.
The arrival of the Swamp Thing, and the stunning practical suit worn by Derek Mears is a sight to behold – one breathed life into by Brian Tyler’s menacing score.
Guiding the audience to that grand entrance, director Len Wiseman delivers a beautifully shot pilot, setting a malevolent tone that’s the heartbeat of the show and never lets up – even when the danger is more human than supernatural.
Talking about “Swamp Thing’s” early episodes doesn’t feel fair to the potential it develops, mainly because whether or not this show will sink or swim rests on the broad shoulders of its creature and, for now, he’s just getting his sea legs.
But in its initial form, the series is a messy, sweaty and genuinely scary romp in the swamp that embraces nature’s dark side – murderous vines and all.

SWAMP THING PILOT REVIEW

Executive producer James Wan has promised the series will be horror heavy. This episode wastes no time solidifying the fact, establishing the mood of the show from the opening sequence. With the right mix of suspense, action, and gore, they are as taking full advantage of the R rating. Those who appreciate the genre will notice the care put into giving Swamp Thing a truly spooky turn on television. Exhibiting a hearty blend of practical and computer-generated visual effects, viewers will be terrified of the evil brewing in the bayou.
Composer Brian Tyler is a big contributor to the scares with his thick and haunting sounds. The music is the perfect accompaniment to the ambiance of the show and helps to set up the suspense for key scenes. It’s easy to find yourself lost in the moment, due to the table setting provided by Tyler’s dark, melodic tones.
Also, keep in mind, this is an origin story. For those who are eager to see the big green guy onscreen, temper those expectations. You will get your wish in dramatic fashion. So in the meantime, enjoy the other bumps in the night provided over the course of the Swamp Thing pilot.
If you measure the show on its own merits there’s a lot to like. I’m very excited to see how the newest chapter in the Swamp Thing mythos unfolds. DC Universe has a potential winner here.
The GWW - Score 7/10

SWAMP THING 01X02 REVIEW

While watching Episode Two of Swamp Thing, one thing is apparent; The show is out to create a truly diverse environment for the audience to enjoy. From the dimly lit bayou implying danger at night to sets that make you feel like you’re smack dab in the middle of a remote, Louisiana lifestyle. The mood is perfectly captured scene to scene.
That being said, don’t believe it’s only about the atmosphere. There is some wonderful character building at play here. Crystal Reed continues to impress as Abby Arcane, plus the script grants deeper dives into the supporting cast from the previous installment. Susie (Elle Graham), Matt Cable (Henderson Wade), Liz Tremayne (Maria Sten) and Madame Xanadu (Jeryl Prescott) all continue to develop quite nicely and naturally. Xanadu’s emergence also proves to be quite impactful. Not only is her look enough to chill you to the core, but she is also deeply rooted in Maria Sunderland’s downward spiral of grief.
The final act of episode two is a full immersion into a perfectly paced slasher film. Edge of your seat suspense, with the right amount of action and gore. Swamp Thing is also finally allowed his time to shine. While not given much screen time overall, I will say what we do get of Swamp Thing is nothing short of fantastic. This episode gives us a better look at our hero and doesn’t disappoint in the slightest. The design is absolutely spot on. Some may argue in this day and age going full CGI makes the most sense, but mixing an actor in a body suit (Derek Mears) with modern effects has proven to be the smart choice. All we need now is more of him.
And oh, the last bit of dialogue during the show will send tingles down your spine, provided you still have one after witnessing what happens to Swamp Thing’s enemies.
It’s safe to say, Swamp Thing officially has me hooked. If you enjoy visually stunning, character-driven, gothic horror, feel free to grab some popcorn and pull up a stump. We’re in for one heck of a show.
The GWW - Score 7.5/10

Swamp Thing Review Tweets

The first two episodes of DC Universe’s Swamp Thing solidify it as the best DCTV series yet. Strong character dynamics, impressive CGI, gripping performances from the cast, and a dark & grim atmosphere all mix together to create the start of a fantastic southern gothic epic.
Series star Crystal Reed shines as Abby Arcane. Her relationship with Avery and Maria Sunderland (played by Will Patton and Virginia Madsen, respectively) is the most grounded and emotional aspect of the show, and it’s absolutely heartbreaking and tearjerking.
Andy Bean’s cute & dorky portrayal of Alec is a stark contrast to the backwoods southern people of Marias, but his immediate chemistry with Reed’s Abby Arcane provides some of the funniest and most compelling scenes in the pilot
Who & What I can’t wait to see more of:
  • Jeryl Prescott’s Madame Xanadu
  • Henderson Wade’s Matt Cable
  • Jennifer Beal’s Lucila Cable
  • Derek Mear’s Swamp Thing
  • Kevin Durand’s Jason Wodrue
  • The mystery of what’s going on in the swamp of Marias
  • Scenes between Abby & the Sunderlands
Thomas Polito, head news writer for The GWW & Omega Underground - Score: 9.5/10

Rotten Tomatoes

Here are a few reviews from Rotten Tomatoes:
  • Providing fertile ground for writers such as Moore and Morrison, Swamp Thing is now being delivered to audiences by producer Wan, director Wiseman, and writers Verheiden and Dauberman. - Jacob Oller, Syfy Wire
  • It may not fully embrace Alan Moore's visceral strangeness, but it's entertainingly spooky and doesn't try to be more serious than its silly premise suggests. - Gavia Baker-Whitelaw, The Daily Dot
  • Not your typical superhero show and takes a while to get to the good stuff, but if suspense and gross out creature horror are up your alley, Swamp Thing could be contagious. - Kyle Wilson, The Lamplight Review
  • The best show on the DC Universe streaming show to date! Top notch production values, with two great star turns by Crystal Reed & Andy Bean. - Grace Randolph, Beyond the Trailer
What do you guys think? I think it's pretty obvious that some of these reviewers don't understand the show, but that's not surprising seeing as how this show is more targeted towards hardcore horroSwamp Thing fans and most of these reviews aren't either of those.

2019.04.17 19:30 Vullein070 Swamp Thing being forced to stop production early, what this means for the streaming service and what you can do about it:

Edit: it worked! They released a Swamp Thing teaser trailer!

Swamp Thing

Hello everyone, as you might have heard in the last few hours, Swamp Thing production has been stopped. They are rewriting to make episode 10 the end of the first season, and given that they’re not even filming the final three episodes, it’s unlikely to be renewed. The reason for the stoppage is currently unknown, but it’s likely due to the show costing an insane amount of money (supposedly $85M on filming in Wilmington alone). The show is still expected to premiere on May 31st.

Future of DC Universe

If you are subscribed to subreddits like DCComics and Television, you might have seen posts linking to articles about people talking about DC Universe and it's future. We would like to remind you that these articles are pure speculation and in my own opinion, fearmongering for clicks. Just because Swamp Thing got shortened doesn't mean that the entire streaming service is in danger. Swamp Thing is a horror show that was spending more money than Titans and Doom Patrol combined, it also only exists because Metropolis got canceled. This show was always in danger of being canceled.
We would also like to remind you that this is not what happened with Titans. Titans was able to film all 13 episodes and the writers chose to extend the storyline when they found out they had gotten a season two renewal. The Swamp Thing cast and crew were unexpected by this news and are not happy about it.
It’s unlikely any other DCU shows are canned like this, but until DC says something official, we don’t know for sure. We are asking you to not post and share around articles with titles like "Swamp Thing forced to stop production early, DC Universe in danger??!?!?!?!?!?!" or "Swamp Thing is canceled, Titans and Doom Patrol are next???". They're just blatant clickbaity articles meant for you to go "holy shit" and click on them.

#SaveTheSwampDCU

After the regulars in the Titansverse discord server learned about this news, we noticed that WB/DC has not said anything about this. We started a hashtag to bring attenttion to this and it's already spreading on Twitter. We don't expect to get this show revived but we can at least get some answers.

'Swamp Thing' Order Reduced as DC Universe's Role in WarnerMedia Streaming Plans Unclear
Swamp Thing is going to spend a bit less time in the swamp.
Producers Warner Bros. Television have reduced the order for the scripted drama series based on the beloved comics created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the original 13-episode order for the drama has been cut to 10 after experienced creative differences with its home at Warners-backed streaming platform DC Universe. The series will stick with its planned May 31 premiere date.
Warners and DC Universe declined comment.
Exclusive: The DC Universe Streaming Service is Not in Danger, Even as ‘Swamp Thing’ Ends Production Early
Earlier today, we reported that Swamp Thing wrapped production early due to “creative differences,” with a truncated 10-episode season set to debut on the DC Universe streaming at the end of May. However, with the reports of the show’s filming ending sooner than expected came rumors that this indicated trouble for DC Universe. /Film can confirm that this is not the case.
/Film has exclusively learned that the potential issues with Swamp Thing‘s production do not reflect the health of the DC Universe service. Reports from various outlets suggested that the future of DC Universe was in doubt amid the early production wrap for its latest original series. However /Film confirmed with sources close to the studio that those two topics are unrelated to each other.
Since DC Universe launched in October, it is outpacing expectations, according to /Film’s sources. The streaming service recently doubled its comic book library in March, while a surprise XBox One launch has also been recently announced. Swamp Thing is not the only original title it has planned down the line through 2020 either, with series like Stargirl and Harley Quinn still set to debut.
However, the DC Universe’s bright future may not extend to Swamp Thing, which has seen some bumps and swerves in production, as shown by reports of the crew’s surprised reaction to the episode-length cut and the now-deleted Instagram comments of cast member Virginia Madsen. However, the “creative reasons” for Swamp Thing’s behind-the-scenes changes may not totally spell doom for the show. We shall see how this show itself fares, but for now, the service on which it is set to debut on May 31 is doing just fine.
As expected, DC Universe will be folded into the new WarnerMedia service to cut operating costs and consolidate existing subscriber bases.

2018.03.05 15:39 brandon8439 My Submariner Story (116610LN March 2018)

As a kid I would go to D.C. on school field trips and we would buy fake Rolexes. I was drawn to them because of the unique Cyclops date and the fact that maybe you could fool someone in to thinking it was real. As I grew older and graduated college I remember being on the subway on the way to the US Open with my Dad and seeing a guy (not much older than I was at the time) wearing a Black SS Submariner. The watch was perfect. It was luxurious but not too formal. It was sporty but not too casual. It was a Rolex but not as ostentatious as the all gold ones you would see Gordon Gekko type people wear. I began to wonder if it was fake or how did he get the money to buy that if it was real, more importantly just how far off his lifestyle was from mine. I didn’t have hardly any money at the time and the thought of buying a Rolex could not have been more foreign. It made me want to be in the position to buy that watch and I knew if I worked hard enough I could. Years went on and I saw the watch time and time again and every time I did it just immediately made me look at the person differently if they were wearing one. I’d think “Ah man he has his life together or he is really doing well for himself”. The truth is I’m sure many people own that watch that can’t afford it but regardless, I was jealous of all of them. Around 2008 I scrapped up all my money to buy a Quartz Tag Heuer and did it for all the wrong reasons, to impress girls, look like I had more money than I really did, etc (It’s funny when I look back on it now since I care less about trying to impress people but more about investing in quality products and making fewer but more meaningful or calculated purchases). The crown on my Tag kept breaking off and I finally sold it for about 70% of what I paid for it. Around 2011 I noticed my brother was wearing a Breitling. I had heard the brand before but all I knew was that they were very expensive. I immediately was drawn to the detail on the watch face and how beautiful it was to watch the second hand glide across with the automatic movement. I was hooked. I had to buy the watch from him and was fortunate to do so. From there I began to learn more about automatic watches and why they are so different and complex. I loved my Breitling but knew it was not a Rolex Submariner. Years later I bought a vintage Omega Deville on the cheap and then not long after bought an Omega Seamaster. Both beautiful and both very different in the way they work (one manual and one automatic) also the way they look (one with a leather strap and one with SS bracelet). By this time I was infatuated with watches. I was reading watch blogs, buying watch magazines, noticing the watches around me more, watching YouTube videos on how they are created, etc. Throughout this whole process I still obsessed over the Rolex SS Submariner. For different reasons at this time. It wasn’t about what other people thought or how it made me look, it was about aspiring to get what I truly want. It was about not settling for something that was almost just as good. It was about investing in something that was truly quality and that would last me a lifetime. It was about working hard for 10 years out of college and finally having the financial stability to make that purchase. I constantly searched the internet for deals and tried to sell all my watches to justify the purchase but dealt with way too many sketchy characters off Craigslist. I wanted to wait for the right moment or have some sort of specific achievement to buy the watch. My lovely wife knew my obsession over the watch and finally just said “Its ok to have nice things”. I mulled it over for a week and decided to do it. Comparing it to the movie Sideways, Virginia Madsen says to Paul Giamatti who is waiting on the right time to drink his prized bottle of wine, “the day you open the Cheval Blanc….thats the special occasion”. The Rolex SS Submariner is my Cheval Blanc and I didn’t need to wait any longer. I anxiously drove to the Authorized Dealer and put down the deposit for my brand new Rolex. I can’t explain how excited I was. It was February but I was sweating like crazy. I have become much more frugal as I’ve grown older and there was this mixture of excitement and buyer’s remorse (before I even bought it!) and of course due to the popularity there is a waiting list. Nevertheless, I completed the transaction and watched countless YouTube videos on the Rolex Submariner for the weeks leading up to my watch coming in from Europe. Honestly the wait list made it even more exiting. Possibly a clever marketing tool by Rolex—hold production, create demand/excitement, etc. It only took 12 days but it was a long 12 days. I anxiously drove out to the AD and after some confusion on which safe it was in, I had it in my hands. It was perfect. Crazy how small it is after looking at it online with zoomed in images. The best part about this story is that the story has just begun. This watch will be with me for decades to come.
